Expectations by first grade are that the eyes and hands team together automatically, so writing, reading and manipulative work (scissors, puzzles, etc) focus on the learning task rather than basic mechanics of where to look and how to use their hands. When children haven’t reached this level, learning to read, write and participate fully in math and science lessons become a real chore.
When children struggle with the basics, revisit the many activities listed for
- Preschool
- Kindergarten
Each activity can be adapted to allow for greater creativity and expression of the growing child’s interests.
